About the Danish public holidays and working hours calculator

The calculator works out the exact number of working days and working hours over a period of your choice of up to 30 years – including Danish public holidays (helligdage) and your own days off. Use it for resource planning, payroll budgeting and capacity analysis in Denmark. If you just need to count working days between two dates, use the date calculator instead.

What is included?
  • Danish public holidays: Movable public holidays (Easter, Whitsun etc.) are calculated correctly for every year automatically.
  • Your own days off: Add company-specific days off such as 1 May, Constitution Day (Grundlovsdag) or closure days.
  • Custom working week: Choose which weekdays are working days and the hours per day.
  • Standard calendar only: Rules specific to a collective agreement (overenskomst) must be added manually as your own days off.
The fields explained
  • Start and end year: The period to analyse – up to 30 years.
  • Working days: Tick the weekdays you normally work (e.g. Monday–Friday).
  • Hours per day: Working hours per working day – used to calculate the total hours for the year.
  • Public holidays and days off: Choose which public holidays are deducted, and add your own days off if needed.

Example calculations

Full-time employee in Denmark, 2026

Monday–Friday, 7.4 hours/day. The tool's default selection of public holidays is deducted – the official Danish public holidays plus Constitution Day (Grundlovsdag) and Christmas Eve (juleaftensdag).

2026 has 365 days. Weekends: 104 days. Public holidays on weekdays: 9 days.

252 working days × 7.4 h = 1,864.8 hours

Working hours 2026:1,864.8 hours

3-year capacity plan (2026–2028)

The same setup as above, but over 3 years. The calculator works out each year separately and adds them up.

Useful for budgeting full-time equivalents or planning project resources across several years.

What employers should note

Days off under a collective agreement (overenskomst) – e.g. from 12 noon on 1 May or Constitution Day (Grundlovsdag) – are not included automatically. Add them manually as your own days off for an accurate result.

The calculator does not take annual leave (ferie) into account. Deduct holiday days manually to get the real productive hours per employee. You can keep track of the holiday days in the holiday planner.

What employees should note

The calculator shows the expected number of working days – use it to check that your time registration and payslip match the calendar year. If you want to check the shifts themselves against the rest-period rules, use the Working Time Check.

If you work in Denmark, public holidays (helligdage) falling on weekdays are paid days off for permanent employees – check your collective agreement (overenskomst) for the rules on holiday pay (helligdagsbetaling).
