Convert a pay package from one Danish collective agreement (overenskomst) to another without changing its total value – basic salary, pension, free choice account (fritvalg) and holiday supplement (ferietillæg).
Danish rules
This calculator applies Danish law and Danish collective agreements. It is for employment in Denmark and does not reflect the rules of other countries.
The pay package conversion calculator helps you convert a pay package from one Danish collective agreement (overenskomst) to another while keeping its total value. This is useful when changing jobs between different collective agreement areas in Denmark or when negotiating new pay terms.
You can choose whether the free choice account and holiday supplement are pensionable by ticking the checkboxes. Pensionable elements are included in the basis for the pension calculation. By default both are ticked, as this is most common in Danish collective agreements.
If your basic salary is DKK 35,000 with a 9% free choice account, 1% holiday supplement and 11% pension under your current collective agreement, the calculator can find the equivalent basic salary under a new collective agreement with other percentages, so the total value stays the same.
This calculation only covers the basic pay elements. Other supplements, working time rules and special terms may differ between collective agreements and should be assessed separately.
The pay package conversion calculator (omskrivningsberegner) finds the new basic salary (grundløn) that gives the same total pay package value when an employee in Denmark moves from one Danish collective agreement (overenskomst) to another. It is used to keep the total value neutral when the collective agreement changes. If you are weighing up a new job instead, Compare jobs sets several pay packages side by side.
Old: Basic salary DKK 30,000, pension 12%, free choice account 3%, holiday supplement 1%. Pension is calculated on the basic salary only.
New: Pension 15%, free choice account 5%, holiday supplement 1%. Pension is still calculated on the basic salary only.
A higher pension and free choice account require a lower basic salary to keep the total value.
Old: Pension is calculated on the basic salary only. New: Pension is also calculated on the free choice account.
Even with unchanged percentages, a broader pension basis gives a higher total value — so the basic salary has to be adjusted down.
The calculator gives a mathematical result — it does not replace a legal review of the specific terms of the collective agreements and any individual agreements.
Always document the conversion in writing in an addendum to the employment contract, and obtain the employee's acceptance before it takes effect.
A neutral total value means that your overall pay is unchanged — but its make-up changes. Be aware that a lower basic salary can affect your pension savings in the long run.
If you work in Denmark, talk to your shop steward (tillidsrepræsentant) or trade union (fagforening) before you accept a conversion — they can check the calculation and your rights.
