About the PDF Text Cleaner

When you copy text from a PDF file, errors often come along: words are split with hyphens, line breaks are inserted in the middle of sentences, and special characters such as ligatures and soft hyphens tag along. The PDF Text Cleaner fixes these errors automatically and gives you clean, readable text ready for documents, emails or case handling. The line-break and word-joining rules are tuned for Danish text; plain line breaks, ligatures and spaces are cleaned in any language, but heading and list detection works best on Danish.

What is fixed automatically?
  • Line breaks in the middle of sentences: Removed, so the text flows naturally.
  • Hyphens at word breaks: Words split across two lines are joined into one word, including with the Danish letters æ, ø and å (“for-” + “øgelse” becomes “forøgelse”; in English, “infor-” + “mation” becomes “information”). The hyphen is kept when it belongs to the word: the Danish “EU-regler” (EU rules), “2.000-3.000 kr.” and “løn- og arbejdsvilkår” (pay and working conditions).
  • Paragraphs are kept: Blank lines that mark paragraphs are kept as a single paragraph break, so the structure stays intact.
  • Headings and lists are kept: Short lines that look like headings (“1. Orientering om budget”) and list items (1., a), •, –, § 3., Stk. 2.) get their own paragraph. Dates (“1. januar”), amounts and references such as “§ 7, stk. 2” in the middle of a sentence are not read as lists. The patterns follow Danish legal and document conventions.
  • Special characters: Ligatures (fi, fl) become ordinary letters, soft hyphens are removed, and tabs and double spaces become a single space.
  • Remember to check: Headings are recognised by their shape, not their layout. A heading without a full stop that follows a paragraph which itself lacks its final full stop may be merged into that paragraph. Read through the result before you use it.

Example uses

Case files and rulings

PDF documents from courts and public authorities are often copied with many automatic line breaks. The cleaner joins the text so you can use it directly in letters or case notes.

Result:Clean, continuous text

Collective agreements and contracts

Sections and paragraphs in collective agreements and contracts are preserved correctly, while unnecessary line breaks within paragraphs are removed. The result is ready to paste into a Word document.
